Welcome to The Village Green

There is nothing quite like the British Countryside. Small fields lined by ancient hedges, old wooden churches with their spires peaking over the rolling hilltops, expansive heathlands with their unique assemblage of fauna, and upland fells bisected by dry stone walls that hem in locally adapted breeds of sheep. And all this rich and abundant diversity on our small island. There is nothing quite like the British Countryside (capitalised for good reason!) and its treasures, intrigue, heritage, traditions, and beauty is what I want to show you here on The Village Green.

You can expect to see posts telling the stories of our countryside and posts that explain and describe features and particularities of the landscape that will help you see with eyes afresh and with a deeper understanding of how the countryside works and what makes it special. There will be posts on the wonder of local churches, unique farming traditions, cherished traditions, and treasured species and breeds. And photographs. Lots of photographs. Some by others but many taken by myself as I travel around these green and pleasant lands.

I hope you will join me as we discover the wonder and beauty of Britain — and how we can all become stewards of the wonders that we see and hear.

Warmly,

Hadden

I also write another publication, Over the Field, which is where you can find my agrarian and nature writing as well as my forays into techno-scepticism and localism.

Agrarianism, nature, ecology, and a little bit of techno-scepticism is what Over the Field is all about. Written from the north of England. If you enjoy Wendell Berry you will hopefully enjoy my writing.
